Taoreed Lagbaja Religion : Taoreed Lagbaja, a highly respected Nigerian military officer, currently holds the position of Chief of Army Staff. He was appointed in 2023 by President Bola Tinubu and has built a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army over more than 30 years.

Taoreed Lagbaja Early Life

Born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobo, Osun State, Nigeria, General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja grew up in Osogbo. His early education took place at St. Charles Grammar School and a local Teachers’ College, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors. In 1987, Taoreed Lagbaja entered the Nigerian Defense Academy as part of the 39th Regular Course, and his dedication led to his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992. His military career began with a command role at the 93rd Battalion (1992-1995), followed by leadership at the 72nd Special Forces Battalion as a platoon leader (1995-2001), where he developed his strategic and tactical skills.

Taoreed Lagbaja holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the Nigerian Defense Academy, obtained in 2001. He furthered his education at the US Army War College, where he earned a master’s degree in strategic studies, blending his academic and military expertise.

Throughout his career, Taoreed Lagbaja has held several key roles within the Nigerian Army. He commanded the 9th Brigade in Lagos State and the 2nd Brigade in Akwa Ibom State, roles that showcased his leadership abilities and contributions to national security. Before his current role, he served as Chief Officer of the 82nd Division from March 2021 to August 2022 and then as Chief Officer of the 1st Division from August 2022 to June 2023.

In 2008, he completed the Military Observers Course at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Wing in Jaji and the ECOWAS Standby Force Battalion Command Post training in Mali in 2010, which honed his skills in peacekeeping and regional cooperation. Rising through the ranks, he reached Lieutenant General in July 2023, coinciding with his appointment as Chief of Army Staff.
