Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Biography : Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (3 September 1971 – 27 July 2024) was a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District from 2019 until his death on 27 July 2024. He was the founder and CEO of Capital Oil, established in 2001.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Early Life and Education

Ifeanyi Ubah was the first of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah in Otolo, a quarter of Nnewi in Anambra State, Nigeria. Due to financial challenges faced by his family, he left Premier Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, at an early age to pursue a career in trade. He later attended various business and leadership courses and seminars both locally and internationally.

Politics

In 2014, Ifeanyi Ubah contested the Anambra gubernatorial election under the Labour Party but was unsuccessful. On 24 February 2019, he was elected as senator for Anambra South under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) but later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He expressed interest in contesting the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election under the APC.

Business

Ifeanyi Ubah initially focused on importing motor tires and spare parts, serving markets across West Africa, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo. He later expanded his business operations to Europe, particularly Belgium and the United Kingdom. In 2001, he founded Capital Oil and Gas Limited. He also established The Authority Newspaper, a Nigerian daily, and owned Ifeanyi Ubah F.C., a football club in the Nigerian Premier League, which he acquired as Gabros International Football Club.

Attempted Assassination

In September 2022, Ifeanyi Ubah survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his convoy in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State, as he was traveling to Nnewi. The attack claimed the lives of at least five people, including two policemen. Ubah survived because his vehicle was bulletproof.

Ifeanyi Ubah was married to Uchenna Ubah, a graduate of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University. The couple had five children. Ifeanyi Ubah also operated the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, a philanthropic organization named in his honor.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Death

On 27 July 2024, Ifeanyi Ubah passed away at the age of 52 following a cardiac arrest in London. He had traveled to the United Kingdom on 25 July for surgery and died in a hospital there, according to reports from a family source.
