Cote De Pablo, Biography : María José de Pablo Fernández, professionally known as Coté de Pablo (born November 12, 1979), is a Chilean-American actress and singer. She was born in Santiago, Chile, and relocated to the United States at age 10, where she pursued acting studies.
At 15, Cote De Pablo co-hosted episodes of the Latin-American talk show Control with former Entertainment Tonight host Carlos Ponce. She later attended Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in music and theater. After taking on various television roles, she landed the part of Ziva David, a main character in the CBS series NCIS, in 2005. Her portrayal earned her an ALMA Award in 2011.
In a 2008 episode of NCIS, she performed part of Tom Waits’ “Temptation.” Beyond the show, she contributed vocals to Roberto Pitre’s album Vivo en Vida.
Cote De Pablo Early Life and Education
Coté de Pablo was born in Santiago, Chile, to Francisco de Pablo and María Olga Fernández. She has two siblings: a younger sister, Andrea, and a brother, Francisco, who is a DJ. When she was 10, her family moved to Miami, Florida, after her mother secured a job at a Spanish-language TV network. There, Cote De Pablo attended Arvida Middle School and New World School of the Arts, where she focused on musical theater.
In fifth grade, she adopted the nickname “Coté” after noticing that many people struggled to pronounce her first name, María José. De Pablo went on to study at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater in 2000. During her time there, she performed in productions like And the World Goes ‘Round, The House of Bernarda Alba, Indiscretions, The Fantasticks, and A Little Night Music.
Cote De Pablo Career
Cote De Pablo entered the entertainment industry at 15, hosting episodes of Univision’s talk show Control (1994–95) alongside Carlos Ponce.
After graduating, she moved to New York City to pursue acting, taking on jobs as a waitress to support herself. In 2000, she appeared in the Fox series The $treet and CBS’s The Education of Max Bickford. She also performed in New York City’s Public Theater and had roles in All My Children and various commercials.
Cote De Pablo portrayed Marguerite Cisneros in The Jury on Fox, although the series lasted only 10 episodes. In 2005, she was set to debut on Broadway as Dolores Fuentes in The Mambo Kings, but the production ended after a trial run in San Francisco.
