Mercy Johnson originates from Okene in Kogi State. Born in Lagos on August 28, 1984, she is the fourth of seven children in a family headed by her father, a retired naval officer, and her mother.

She began her primary education in Calabar, Cross River State, but later transferred to Lagos due to her father’s naval duties. There, she attended Nigerian Navy Primary School. She completed her secondary education at Rivers State Secondary School and Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt.
