Monday Okpebholo Biography : Monday Okpebholo (born August 29, 1970) is a Nigerian businessman and politician who took office as the Governor of Edo State on November 12, 2024. He previously served as the senator for the Edo Central senatorial district from 2023 to 2024.
Monday Okpebholo Early Life and Education
Monday Okpebholo was born on August 29, 1970, in the Udomi-Uwessan community of Irrua. He attended Udomi Community Primary School and Ujabhole Community Secondary School in Uwesan Irrua, Esan Central LGA. He completed his secondary schooling in Jos, Plateau State, where he earned his senior school certificate. He later graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Abuja and pursued a Master’s degree in Policy and Leadership Studies at the same institution.
Monday Okpebholo Career
Monday Okpebholo ran for the Senate seat representing the Edo Central senatorial district on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket and won on February 25, 2023. He officially joined the 10th National Assembly of Nigeria as a senator on June 13, 2023, representing Edo Central.
In February 2024, Monday Okpebholo secured the APC’s nomination for the Edo State gubernatorial race.
In 2024, Monday Okpebholo faced a court summons over allegations of date-of-birth falsification, which stated his birth date as August 1, 1977, on his voter’s card. Previously, he had been flagged for listing August 29, 1972, as his birth date on his WAEC certificate.
During the 2024 gubernatorial campaign, Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie endorsed him, highlighting the need for improvements in infrastructure and services. She was quoted encouraging support for Monday Okpebholo, asking citizens to vote if they were ready for a change in essential services.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo the winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, making him the Governor-elect under the APC.

Monday Okpebholo has been married twice but is currently single. He has four children from these previous marriages. Beyond his roles as a politician and family man, he is an active member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and a committed Christian.
